"Black friday madness","Get ready for the big friday event", "The biggest sale of the year",where some of the tittles on the storefronts of Macy's, Bloomingdales,Urban Outfitters and many others. Opening the doors at twelve am in San Francisco, where I went to spend thanksgiving, was impossible to ignore the shopping part in my stay. I wanted to experience the madness of shopping at those early morning hours, but the lines where impossible. People where sleeping on the streets waiting for the doors to open, for me was already to much so I preferred to sleep and wait for the next day to shop.
70% and 50% off where the marketing strategy to attract more people, cause in some stores once you where there you could realize that just few items where on sale, so it was very tricky. For someone that loves to shop like I do, this friday was really crazy. What I bought? I realized now when I was getting ready to go back to LA and placing all my new clothes into my luggage that I have an obsession with studs and spikes. I ended buying sweaters, blazer, shoes bracelets everything with studs and spikes. Anyway are the last trend in fashion it goes perfect with jackets, pants shoes and accessories, all the stores are caring it. My favorite as always is Urban Outfitters and Top shop you can find amazing things there. So for now...no more studs for me!!
Ok !!! Here it goes another funny story in an audition. As we know, specially the people that works in this business , actor model etc. Every day depending on the audition you can be a different character, the idea is to have fun and enjoy the character that you have to play for the audition.
This time I had to be a fashionista for another audition for Glee, so I enjoyed choosing my super fashionista outfit . I must admit I was a little bit nervous, I got into the elevator and I saw this drag queen coming with super high heels and super well dressed, he was holding his headshot in his hand so I could see his normal look on the photo, he was actually good looking. My curiosity was over the top cause I wanted to now if he was just dressing for another role in Glee or he was a real drag queen, so I got the guts to ask him.
"I followed a youtube video tutorial for make-up and hair", he said. I was amazed the great job that he have done, For clothes and heels he went to a vintage store located in Melrose blvd.
The elevator opened and there was like twenty of them auditioning for the role of drag queen. I must admit, that is what I call passion dedication and good work.
I am posting a tutorial video that you can use it for halloween, an audition or for other ocassion.
Here is a home made video from my fashionista outfit for the Glee audition, I hope you like it!!
This week was full of surprises and funny stories to tell. I might say I keep enjoying this crazy business and laugh at those weird and insane things actors and models have to do in castings or jobs. So in my next few posts I ll be telling more stories.
I'll start with the baby story. Ok I was in this casting for a sunglasses brand and there was this young mother with her two year baby, she wanted to get into the casting and leave for some minutes the baby on the stroller, but she couldn't cause the baby started crying like crazy, and I "the good Samaritan" felt so bad seeing that the mother couldn't get into the casting, so I told her that I could keep the baby in my arms until she is back. That's when the adventure started. The baby started crying as if the world was ending, I didn't now how to keep the baby silent so I started doing all the funny gestures that my face muscles could do, and suddenly the big surprise came ....the baby started to vomit on my dress as if this tiny little thing ate a Big Mac.....sorry that's gross, but I have to be graphic so you can imagine all the situation. The worst of all is that I had to get in to the casting after the mother. I had to go back to my house take a shower and get back to the casting.
It's been so long that I don't write and today while I was thinking what would be interesting to write about, this constant pain on the back of my feet started and became more intense, that's why I decided to write about CRAMPS.This is a special post for people that really suffers from cramps like I do!. Yeahhh it gets really bad specially when I had a rough day, or I spent so many hours on hills .When I get home it's a nightmare. That's why I wanted to give you my tips for crams that really helped me. Most of the people now that the potasium is the best for crams, so eat bananas!. I do eat one in the morning and one at night. Drink six to eight glasses of water daily to help prevent dehydration, which may play a role in the cramping.
And when I am screaming with pain I put my feet on the buthtub with really hot watter, that really makes the pain go away and with a soft foot massage and streching a little bit those leg muscles you can finally say....GOODBYE CRAMPS!!!
It's Fashion Week time!!! I spent four incredible days in New York and I almost forgot how much I missed New York. The energy, the feeling of non stop is what I like the most specially in this season.
September, the crazy month of Fashion Week, beautiful super tall and skinny girls all over Manhattan, a flashback of those times when I was running from one place to another, huge lines and waiting hours for the casting was really exhausting but fun at the same time. Next to all the Russian Polish and German girls that were at least 1.80 cm , I must admit was really intimidating that's why I prefer going more for print and commercials.
This four days were more chill and I could watch for the first time, from the outside this crazy world of modeling. Some people say it's easy? No way!! it requires a lot of sacrifices. Waking up really early go to the castings from one place to another. One place they tell you how beautiful and gorgeous you are, the next casting they don't even look at you. Is this game of up and downs were you have to stay firm, knowing who you are, and where are you from and not letting anyone to turn you down. Stay positive every time.
Anyway I love this business and that's why I choose modeling for leaving, but you need that, as in every profession, you need to love it to do it cause every thought and feeling is reflected in the picture. If you are in a bad day and a bad mood or you are really sad fore some reason that will show in the eyes. Photoshop? Yeah nowadays you can fix everything with photoshop but not the shine in your eyes.
Here are some photos of some runways that I've done in NY.
For this Spring 2012 NY Fashion Week most of the designers used gold and grey colors in their designs. My favorite collections were Diane Von Furstenberg, Badgley Mischka, Victoria Beckham and Carolina Herrera.
Here are some photos and videos of my favorite designer collections :
Diane Von Furstenberg so innovative, it called everyone attention with the Google glasses that can record and take pictures as a regular smart phone.
Victoria Beckham really surprised me with her collection, very classy with a modern touch in her designs. Thumbs up!!
Badgley Mischka called my attention with the unique designs of the dresses and the combination of colors she used, alot of gold and pastel.
The best for last, this last video is from the legendary Carolina Herrera there is not a way not to love her designs and style, the texture and fabric flowing of all those magic dresses. Made me want to wear a dress tonight.
Enough talking about the designers! I want to talk about the models the ones that really rock the runway in every show. My favourite ever is Karlie Kloss I love her catwalk and her attitude on the runway. She was named the best model by People magazine in 2008. With just 20 years old she has been in advertisements for Jean Paul Gaultier, Donna Karan, Nina Ricci, Chloe, Lacoste, Oscar de La Renta, she is the face of the Marc Jacob's perfume Lola and many more.
The second new top model that I really like and every designer fight to haver her in their show is Daphne Groeneveld is a Dutch model best known for appearing in 2010 December\ January cover of Vogue Paris alongside Tom Ford. With just 17 years old she appeared in big campaigns such as Louis Vuitton Miu Miu eyewear, Calvin Klein, Dior, H&M
I would like to dedicate this post to the beauty of hair. How important is for woman to have a shiny and healthy hair?. I know that for most of all woman their hair its everything. It gives you a radience look , a feminine beauty and a youth look, if you have it long and healthy. For me it's the reflection of your health. How is your daily diet, how many nutrients you consume day by day. A balanced diet rich in calcium, iron, zinc and protein and a proactive lifestyle are two major factors that directly influence the health of your hair.
Sometimes is hard to keep a healthy hair specially for models, cause in every photo shoot and runways the constant use of iron and blow dryers makes your hair dry. What i hate the most it's when they tangle your hair so it looks super big with volume and then i have to spend two hours in the shower to brash it.
I always had my hair super long and I really like to take care of my hair, and invest in it. I must admit that genetically all my family has great hair, specially my mother. But I am sure that the few hair tips that I follow and the hair products that I use helps alot, so you can follow it too.
1.- KERASTASE I know that is really expensive and every time i have to pay for it, I find myself in an inner monologue," fifty dolars for a tiny bottle...mmm I could by clothes with that money". But then I buy it and never complain, is really magical. My favourite is the shampoo Bain-Oleo Relax Anti Frizz and once a week Oleo Relax Nutritive Mask, even if you have it healthy it really makes your hair smooth and shinier.
3.-APPLY HAIR OIL if you don't wanna spend much money in expensive products you can apply coconut oil or olive oil just if you have very dry hair ,you can sleep overnight with it and shampoo your hair in the morning. If you don't have dry hair apply it just for 20 minutes so it doesn't get too greasy.
2.- WIDE-TOOTHED COMB HAIR Specially when it's wet. Detangle it from the top and work your way very gently to the ends of your hair.
3.- CUT THE ENDS at least once a month so it grows healthier and faster and you will get rith of the split ends.
4.- USE COLD WATER to rinse your hair it closes the cuticle and gives a shinier look.
5.-DRINK ALOT OF WATER to hydrate your organism. Your skin and hair is gonna look radiant.
Other lines that I really like are Head and Shoulders for every day use, and John Frieda has great products too specially for frizzy hair.
This is a commercial for Head and Shoulders that I've done, and had so much fun shooting.
